Blessing

Blessing
is a complicated word

a Christian favorite we don’t quite
understand.

For God says,
“Blessed are
the beggarly
the sad
the sober
unassuming
slandered and unlistened-to for Jesus’ sake.”

Hardly, I think,
the kind of blessing
we are asking for.
