About

Welcome! I’m Karoline, and I write infrequently but with love.

About Me
I’ve been married for twelve years and I have two daughters, one a beautiful, curious, incorrigible seven year old, and the other an intrepid and deeply imaginative four year old Who Can Do Everything. We’re expecting our first son at the end of 2020. You’ll find short words for busy days here, much about  motherhood – that sublime and shockingly earthy work, and much about spiritual life and challenge.

What do you call your posts?
Thoughts. Sometimes poems. I’ve borrowed some poetic conventions for the sake of pacing or emphasis, but not every post develops the kind of sound patterns and imagery distinctive of poetry. I’ve recently begun experimenting with formal poetry and find it immensely satisfying – though embarrassingly difficult. 🙂

Why short?
I’m a mother. 🙂
Also, a short thought may stick around longer.

How do you pick your subjects?
You’ll see recurrent themes: motherhood, music, words, spiritual life. That said, there’s really no special rhyme or reason to the subjects that pop up, or the order in which they pop up. These are things I’m thinking about, sometimes thoughts that have simmered for a long time, sometimes thoughts generated by the particular day.

What else do you write?
I write occasional short stories. Flash fiction is an abiding favorite. I have some longer form story ideas, but quite frankly not the stamina to organize them right now! Maybe someday . . . or maybe not.

Tell me about the photos.
The majority come from the generous artists at Death to Stock Photos. They are not my work.
