“God forbid!” cried Job – “You treat your enemies like this –
The way You treat Your friends!”

“God forbid!” cried Job – “You treat your enemies like this –
The way You treat Your friends!”
Did you know
that you are a God picture, walking?
That she is too? –
That he is too? –
but nothing else on this wide earth?
Stripped.
On knees.
Washing feet stained with dirt and sticky with muck
A mother’s life
A neighbor’s life
A Savior’s life.
Here the answer to the cynic’s ache –
your
wary
weary
constant
watch for the
man behind the curtain:
“Hope that does not put to shame.”
Blessing
is a complicated word
a Christian favorite we don’t quite
understand.
For God says,
“Blessed are
the beggarly
the sad
the sober
unassuming
slandered and unlistened-to for Jesus’ sake.”
Hardly, I think,
the kind of blessing
we are asking for.
